Bye-bye, Bugatti. SSC North America set the new world record for the fastest production car on Oct. 10 on a 7-mile stretch of public road outside Las Vegas. With an average speed of 316.11 mph for two runs, the 1,750-hp SSC Tuatara -- the only supercar manufactured in the United States -- blew past the Bugatti Veyron's record of 267.8 mph set in 2010. The Tuatara, which reached 331 mph in one of the record-breaking runs, features a 5.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and a CIMA 7-speed semi-automatic transmission.
