Mecanum wheels require powerful mini motors for autonomous transporters
When autonomous mobile robot maker Evocortex needed a powerful, compact solution to drive the specialized omnidirectional Mecanum wheels on their transporters, they turned to the micro-motor experts at FAULHABER for help. The Evocortex wheel modules are equipped with 3257... CR or 3272... CR series DC micro motors, and each is fitted with an IEF3 encoder, a 38/2S gearhead, and a brake -- all in a very limited space.

How To: Disc springs in mechanical braking system
Braking systems for off-highway equipment are commonly designed to be hydraulically actuated, but without an additional fail-safe system, this design alone has limited reliability. If a hydraulic seal is compromised, or the hydraulic cylinder loses pressure for any reason, the brakes fail. One solid mechanical back-up design uses SPIROL disc springs.

Recommended: Alternative to traditional drive systems
Nexen Group has introduced a stainless steel version of its patented precision roller pinion system (RPS). The Nexen RPS engages two teeth simultaneously to achieve superior accuracy with zero backlash at any length. The system is also extremely quiet and 99% efficient. Stainless steel makes the system corrosion resistant, with a long life of up to 36 million meters. Nexen's RPS provides a low-maintenance, durable alternative to rack and pinion, ball screw, and belt drive technology. The RPS is used for a wide range of applications including laser cutting, plasma cutting, and gantry applications.

Image - New bonding tech to join different materials
New bonding tech to join different materials
Polyplastics has introduced an innovative bonding technology that is unlike traditional joining methods such as plastics welding or adhesion. AKI-Lock has few restrictions on the materials that can be used and forms strong, airtight bonds with combinations of different materials that are usually difficult to join. AKI-Lock uses the glass fibers in glass fiber-reinforced resins as a physical anchor for bonding. AKI-Lock can also be used to give one component multiple properties. For example, even when installing an O-ring into a complex shape that is difficult to perform manually, double molding with AKI-Lock can be used to secure the O-ring with molding. Doing so makes it possible to produce a secure seal, even with complex shapes.
