The Turlock Irrigation District has approved piloting the first-in-the-nation construction of solar panels over water canals in California. Researchers estimate that covering the 4,000 miles of California's canals could reduce evaporation by as much as 82%, save enough water to meet the residential needs of more than 2 million people a year, and generate roughly a sixth of the state's current installed electricity capacity.

How does continuous fiber reinforcement in 3D printing work?
Markforged runs through the basics of how its Continuous Fiber Reinforcement (CFR) process takes shape when 3D printing using one of its machines. The technique uses two extrusion systems: one for conventional FFF filament and a second for long-strand continuous fibers. Continuous fibers are laid down in-layer, replacing FFF infill. Markforged says the resulting parts are up to 10 times stronger than any FFF material alone.
