| Steam condenser coating boosts power efficiency A recent innovation to the steam cycle used in fossil fuel power generation could make coal and natural gas power generation 2% more efficient and have a significant impact on energy efficiency, water use, and CO2 release. "The reality is that fossil fuels aren't going away for at least 100 years," said Nenad Miljkovic, a professor of mechanical science and engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the project lead.
