| Can dark roofs stay as cool as white ones? Fluorescence holds the key Elementary school science teaches us that in the sun, dark colors get hot while white stays cool. Now new research from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has found an exception: Scientists have determined that certain dark pigments can stay just as cool as white by using fluorescence, the re-emission of absorbed light. The finding has implications for structures, car paint, and more.

| Micro Solutions: In-flight electronic fuel mixing for UAVs Small UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) require reliable propulsion systems in order to achieve extended flight times with minimal quantities of fuel. Previously, the only option available for fuel delivery to the engine was a carburetor; yet it couldn't provide an optimum fuel mix for all of the various phases of flight.
